What DiskSamurai is
DiskSamurai measures what is using your disk and shows it as a Treemap, a Sunburst or Planets. It finds duplicate files by content and groups caches, logs, leftover installers and developer junk so you can clear them a category at a time. Everything it removes goes to the Trash.

How does the disk permission work, and how do I grant it again?
macOS gives App Store apps one folder at a time. On first launch DiskSamurai opens a window already showing your startup disk; select it and click Grant Access, and the app can measure everything on it from then on without asking again. macOS then asks separately, once each, about Desktop, Documents, Downloads and other apps' data.
If you skipped this or chose a single folder, click the System Data area of the map (or the “folders couldn't be read” note under it) and choose Grant Access. If you clicked Don't Allow for Desktop, Documents or Downloads, use Ask Again in the same place; macOS will not ask a second time once it has recorded a refusal, so turn that folder on in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Files and Folders → DiskSamurai.
On macOS Tahoe 26.0, apps cannot be granted the whole startup disk because of a system bug. Update to macOS 26.1 or later.
Why are some folders shown as unreadable?
Some places stay out of reach whatever you grant. macOS seals Mail, Safari and cookie storage, other people's home folders on the same Mac, and some protected system locations, and an App Store app cannot open them. DiskSamurai does not guess their size: whatever it could not read is counted as System Data, and clicking that area explains what was left out, instead of passing it off as measured.
Where do deleted files go, and can I undo?
Everything DiskSamurai removes is moved to the macOS Trash, never erased. Press ⌘Z (Edit → Undo Move to Trash) to put removed files back where they were, most recent first. Undo covers the current scan: after a new scan it is no longer offered, and once you empty the Trash there is nothing left to put back. Until you empty the Trash you can also drag files back out of it yourself.
What does the AI analysis send?
Nothing, unless you turn it on. AI analysis is optional and stays off until you enter an API key for a provider you choose (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, xAI or an OpenAI-compatible service). When you start an analysis, DiskSamurai sends that provider the names, paths, sizes and dates of files from the scan. Never file contents. DiskSamurai asks before the first analysis with each provider. Nothing is sent to us, and nothing is sent at all when you don't run an analysis. The provider's own privacy policy applies to what it receives.
How do I remove my API key?
Open DiskSamurai → Settings (⌘,) → Provider, pick the provider and click Delete next to the key field. The key is removed from your Keychain and AI analysis stops working until you enter a new one.
Which Macs and macOS versions are supported?
macOS 12 Monterey or later, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
How do I uninstall DiskSamurai?
If you added an API key, delete it first as described above. Then quit DiskSamurai and drag it from Applications to the Trash. Its scan results and settings live in its own container, ~/Library/Containers/com.gozulin.DiskSaverMAS, which you can delete too. To tidy up permissions, remove DiskSamurai from System Settings → Privacy & Security → Files and Folders.
